Cacti and Succulents
Cacti and Succulents
By now we all seem to have heard the name, their popularity is unmatched! An industry report done by Garden Center Magazine last year was stated as saying “the only thing ‘hotter’ [with regards to popularity] than succulents, are flowers, in the month of May.” With a statement like that, we often have to ask ourselves, “just why are they so popular?”
It might have something to do with their tenacity for growing. We have referred to succulents as “the Superman of Plants” for quite some time here at Handy Andy’s. When we look at these plants, we see them as tough. We see their stiffness, rigidness, and the fact that they stand up well! If that was all they did, that might be enough. These plants are also known to handle neglect better than just about anything else.
The term “succulent” is very broad but it applies to all plants that retain water. These plants retain water in their roots, stems, or their leaves. While some succulents hail from regions that are much drier than others, they all benefit from getting very wet and then being allowed to dry all the way out.
